inverter

This 12V inverter, with built-in transfer switch, changes DC output from your RV batteries into AC power and sends it to the electrical system. Using pure sine wave technology, it creates clean power with low distortion, making it safe, efficient, and perfect for sensitive electronics like computers. The inverter can generate 4,000 starting watts and 2,000 running watts which is a great fit for appliances and electronics. Additionally, with the integrated transfer switch, it will automatically change from inverter to shore power when available.

Functions and Features

To connect your AC loads, the inverter includes hardwired input and output terminals. It also has positive and negative DC terminals that connect to your batteries. Lastly, there is a port for the included fixed-mount remote. The system includes a number of safety features. It has a reverse polarity protection that will protect the converter if the battery is hooked up incorrectly. Additionally, the unit includes protection for overvoltage, undervoltage, and overloading which can damage your equipment, as well as the converter. The built-in cooling fan also removes excess heat from the unit. The fan speed is proportional to the internal temperature on the converter, so when the power demand is low, the fan will operate quietly. For additional safety, installing a 200-amp fuse (sold separately) between the battery bank and the inverter will protect your equipment from power surges.

Built-In Transfer Switch Automatically Switches to Shore Power

The integrated transfer switch selects the primary source of 120V AC current. This switch has been pre-wired to automatically change from inverter to shore power to conserve battery life. It includes a 20-amp leg rated at 135V. Additionally, since the switch only accepts one active source, it protects your electrical system from dangerous backfeed that can damage your equipment.

Fixed-Mount Remote Provides Easy Monitoring and Control

inverter remote

The fixed-mount remote lets you monitor and control the inverter from inside your RV. It includes a digital display that shows voltage, output power, error codes, and a low battery indicator. It also has a power button to turn the inverter on and off.

How It Installs

The inverter mounts inside your RV in a dry location with ventilation. It should be installed close to the battery bank, but not in the same compartment.

inverter terminals

The DC terminals are wired to the battery bank.

There are several ways to connect the inverter to your RV's electrical system, but this will depend on your rig and how you want to use your inverter. If your RV's distribution panel only has one leg, a subpanel will be needed for installation. You will also need a 100-amp circuit breaker between the inverter and battery positive post. Two 20-amp circuit breakers will be needed to channel AC power from the main panel into the inverter and then out into the subpanel.

etrailer should take some lessons from Amazon. When multiple products are sent to a distributor in a large box or pallet, the individual items should then be shipped for an order in a secure package. etrailer simply slapped a label on the manufacturer’s flimsy carton and tossed it to USPS who succeeded it breaking the single stran of tape around the box. When I received the package, the box was totally opened on one end and the inverter mounting tab was bent. Not the delivery I would expect for a $600+ item.

I am sorry that the box took such a beating before it was delivered to you. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you as soon as possible.

I purchased the 200 w inverter and purchased a brand new inch pound torque wrench and it tells me to torque them down to 200 inch pounds. The positive went on just fine and the negative one snapped! I am so angry right now! Do I tear all this apart? Return this one?

by:

This has made huge difference when dry camping with our rv. I added solar panels and three 100 amp hr batteries along with this inverter. Coffee, microwave, and yes the wife's blow dryer works flawlessly. No need to put my boots on and go start the generator.
I don't have the AC wired to operate off the inverter, nor would it work.
All positive feed back from me.
What I know now;
1) It can't be mounted near flammable fuel tanks.
2) You must use correct size wire with proper connections.
3) Mount the unit as close as possible to the batteries because the battery cable (200 amps) are more expensive than the line voltage wire (15 amps).
4) The remote panel comes with a long cord to mount inside anywhere.

by:

I ordered it on a Friday and was expecting it on the following Thursday but it arrived on that Monday. I was quite surprised how fast the shipping was. Thanks again Etrailer for your excellent service.

by:

Excellent products, prices and customer service! My Progressive Dynamics Inverter works great!!!

by:

Works as advertised. Got the 2000W so we could use our microwave.

by:

Easy install and performs as expected.

by:

Works great! Well made!

by:

This inverter works great on our airstream. It runs everything flawlessly (not a/c) in our rig. Instapot, coffee maker, connection/microwave oven, TV's,etc. Handles surge well. Automatic transfer switch is a great feature. Highly recommend.

by:

Direct replacement of Progressive Dynamics 1000 watt model installed in Class C from the factory. Should greatly improve useability and will go along nicely with the self installed upgrade of LiFePo batteries to replace flooded undersized cells from the factory

by:

I am in process of installing this on my personal RV, but I'm impressed by the specification and functionality. The transfer switch on the inverter makes this extremely simple to incorporate into the electrical system and makes the operation even easier. There is huge value having less components to deal with, and when adding items like this to an RV, space can be limited. So, this helps to keep a smaller equipment footprint.

by: 02/15/2023

Does not have a fancy case which I did not need, fits nicely in the small space I have, also has a transfer switch, 2,000 watts is a good size, seems to be of good quality..

by:

This is the second one I have bought, I now have one in my Race Trailer and one in my 5th wheel love them both! Will buy again if I ever need one. I do recommend staying to the install instructions for the distance from the batteries and cable size.

by:

Just what needed. The item number was different from progressive dynamics but arrived in progressive box with the exact model number I needed. Just wish the inventory number matched also. I figured a PD item number might be exact but it wasn't.

by:

The perfect inverter for my camper it has a built in transfer switch made for an easy installation as my camper is invverter ready

by:

I will have this installed on 8/16, perhaps they will need to make an adjustment for the BENT AREA! Hopefully this inverter hasn't been dropped on the ground and will work. I'll be in touch.

by:

great price and heavy duty without the pretty and expensive packaging that go power offers.

by:

Easy to install and excellent customer service and very knowledgeable

by:

  • How Does Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter Handle 4,000 Watt Surge with 200 Amp Fuse
You might go with 00 AWG but it depends on the length you'd need. Basically if you'd be over the 10 feet with the # PD64FR. So the fuse recommended for this is 200 amp which yes this was designed to handle surges over that since it's rated for 4,000 watts surge but the fuse is not going to blow on that initial surge as you'd want to use a 200 amp slow blow fuse.

  • Can A Progressive Dynamics Power Center Be Used Together With An Inverter
Yes, the Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center # PD4135K can be used with an inverter. The power loop that you're referring to all comes down to how you wire in the inverter to your RV's electrical system. With an inverter like the Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter # PD64FR the converter wouldn't be getting power from the inverter while it's in use. Since the # PD4135K only has one hot bus bar you'll need to pick up a sub panel from your local hardware store. Everything...

  • Can 30 Amp Circuit Breaker Be Used for AC Power From Progressive Dynamics PD1620A Inverter
Yes, since the Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter w/ Transfer Switch - Remote # PD64FR is rated for 30 Amps pass-through you'll be able to continue using your 30 Amp circuit breakers for this application. The instructions are showing the 20 Amp breakers just as a general example for one of their lower-tiered systems so you'll stick with the rating of the unit and just use the installation photo as an example for routing the wiring. • Can the Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter Be Used with Transfer Switch Already on Trailer
Yes, you can use the Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter part # PD64FR with an external transfer switch. In order to do this you'd just use the inverter output to another switch and not involve the inverters 120 volt input side. This would bypass the internal transfer switch. I confirmed this with my contact at Progressive Dyanmics for you.

  • Recommended Inverter For Powering TV and Coffee Pot While Not Hooked Up To Shore Power
The correct inverter for your setup is really going to come down to the wattage requirements of the appliances you will be using in your 2008 Freedom Express RV when running off the battery bank. I included a chart that goes over common wattage requirements for certain appliances, and based off what you are wanting to power a 2000 Watt Inverter like the # PD64FR will likely work, but if you try to run any additional appliances at the same time you may run into issues. To calculate power consumption simply multiply wattage by the number of hours it is being used. Remember to consider type of current, AC or DC. The number of watts is equal to amps multiplied by volts. Your battery bank is rated in Amp Hours, AH. If you have a lithium chemistry battery you can use almost the entire charge before voltage drops below a usable range. If you have a battery bank that is lead acid chemistry, including those labeled as AGM or Gel, you can use at best half of...
